“ I wish the night can stay here longer, with you in my bed, not just in my head “ - Oshtru

This sentence sums up the description of ‘Forlorn Love’ - a collaborative piece with artist Ryan, a.k.a. Oshtru.

This is a beautiful piece in an attempt to express the feeling of loving someone deeply while simultaneously living with the fear of losing them. It is a state of mind, of being, of love.

And with our increasing adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and our dependency on them, it will only be a matter of time AI becomes an object of love - whether it is through a manifestation of an image of someone we love, or once loved, or through an imaginary customizable avatar. What then is real love, and how can be define it? The fear of losing the other - is as real as it gets with the fear of losing someone real. Pertinent questions arise as these themes converge and intersect.

Art. Fashion. Technology.

How will modern sensibilities reshape the way we think, feel and act? What lies ahead?

Ryan a.k.a Oshtru - is an Indonesian-based Vector artist. His works and style are easily identifiable by the bright palettes, crazy details and sci-fi fiction aesthetics that are simply out-of-this world. His illustrations are thought-provoking and aesthetically-striking; thematically revolving around contemplative emotions, vividly expressed through the facial expressions of his characters.

Hi! My name is Ryan also known as Oshtru, I’m a visual artist and designer from Indonesia who focuses on vector graphics. My works explore the idea of being human and other ambitious thoughts that come along with it, and are characterized by neon tones of technology and a space-themed aesthetic.

Q1: let’s introduce yourself!

Anxiety, digital painting, 2023

Q2: WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO EXPRESS THROUGH THIS COLLAB?

I shared this sentence "I wish the night can stay here longer, with you in my bed, not just in my head" with Paper, and through this collaboration, I want to explore how AI might impact our relationships with each other. I aim to convey the feeling of loving someone deeply while simultaneously fearing the possibility of losing them. My work often showcases the juxtaposition between these two emotions, and I want to express it through the characters, allowing Paper's futuristic technology touch to shine in this piece.

Q3: Do tell us a bit more about your art journey and what inspired you to do art?

My art journey is closely linked with my experience with technology. It began when I was a kid, spending time alone drawing imaginary characters and creating stories with them. Until one day my parents bought a PlayStation and a Pentium III PC, those things really changed the way I see art. more than just something I could enjoy myself; it became a way to share pictures, characters, and stories easily with my friends. This overlap of art and technology is also why NFTs resonate with me so much. It reminds me of my initial experiences with these two devices.

Black Rain, digital painting, 2023

Q4: Do also share with us more of your unique style; the characters, the colors, the composition, the stories - and the fashion!

As I mentioned earlier, my art is heavily inspired by humans, technology, and space. I am fascinated by the complexity, beauty, and inspiration that these three elements offer, and this is reflected in the development of my character expressions, the gradients of colors, and the intricate details hidden within my work.

I have a series of NFTs in SVG (Scalable Vector Graphic) format, which offers much more versatility compared to JPEG NFTs. With vector graphics, you can add hidden links, zoom in up to 64000%, and enjoy various other fun things. I believe NFT is more than just a JPEG and people really should try to explore BOTH art and technology aspects of NFT and have fun!

Q5: what are your thoughts on how your art relates to technology, web3, nfts and the space in general?

There’s No Point in a Conversation, digital painting, 2023

Q6: . Would you care to share any thoughts on how AI art is changing the space? What is your stance as an illustrator?

I have a rather utopian view of AI. People can make anything they want using a simple prompt on midjourney and call it ‘art’, I’m not against it. In the end, only great art and great artist will be remembered. I believe great artists can’t be replaced by AI itself, but great artists accompanied by AI will.

Q7: What or where do you envision your art journey will take you to - say in the next 5 years? What would you like to achieve?

I envision my art being showcased in outer space! (haha!)

Have fun and keep learning new things every day! Life is more than just selling your NFTs and analyzing your social media analytics.

Closing statement: anything you like to share at all, moving forward.

THANK YOU RYAN FOR THE WONDERFUL INTERVIEW! CHEERS.
