Ray Hu Jiu-Chen, or more commonly known as inbetweencosmos - is an artist & digital creative based in Paris France. She is a digital fashion artist that intertwines the past & present in her works, oscillating between one and the other, future and nostalgia. As per her alias, Ray's art travels between the different cosmos - mediating, negotiating and reconciliating various elements that are in constant flux. You can always see a nostalgic touch in her sci-fi futuristic works, a debate between technology & nature, with a hint of spirituality as she travels between her different worlds.

I’m Ray, a French-Taiwanese fashion designer with a specialisation in prints and graphic design, is based in the fashion capital of Paris. With a strong background in visual art and painting, I embarked on a graphic design career while pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. This artistic foundation played a pivotal role in shaping my style and expertise in creating visually striking garments.

My Art is very much linked to my experience of technology and nature, physical and non-physical as emotions and memories. It’s easy to find and combination of natural elements and robotic characters in presentation and in some more recent practices I’ve developed 3D rendering techniques for garments and avatars for digital fashion and editorials.

Q1: Tell us a bit more about yourself.

Q2: WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO EXPRESS OR ACHIEVE THROUGH THIS COLLAB?

It is the first time I’m using my 3D render images for collaboration, and I thank Paper for this amazing proposal to combine our passion of fashion and art together creating something beyond one’s perspective. With Paper we have lots in common, fashion, technology and artistic expressions, I’ve tried to keep the organic forms for the garments on avatar and the metallic accessories for a futuristic touch which also resonates with Papers works. As for me, my work is always a dialogue between past nostalgia, future technology and nature, and this one is no exception and even better, inspiration from another artist!

Q3: do share more about your art journey thus far.

My art journey started when I was a kid, growing up with plenty of time by myself, I’ve developed a passion to express my emotions on paper and creating my visual diary kind of. This passion continued till now and I’m grateful to have met some great teachers and creative friends on the way during my Art University and Fashion Design school period. During these couple years I focused on fashion print designs, digital illustrations and digital fashion.

As I mentioned above, art practice has been always there in my life and I would never imagine to live without it. For me creativity is present everywhere in different forms, by preference I chose fashion and visual arts to represent mine. Since little I like to style my barbies and people around me, but not myself, which I think it relates to my urge to create the world around me. NFT technology is a new way for art to be shared and collected, especially in digital forms, which I believe is the future and I also consider fashion NFTs will allow the fashion industry to prevent waste and facilitate the creative process.

Q4: WHAT aCTUAlly inspired you to do art? or even, to do fashion-related art as nfts?

I really appreciate what the Web3 community has to offer, amazing new ideas and discussions. On my NFT journey I’ve met so many great people, especially talented artist that it would be difficult or never to be connected with. They’ve brought so much love and inspiration in my life and I surely believe that we will grow together.

Q5: what are your thoughts on how your art relates to technology, web3, nfts and the space in general?

Q6: WHat or where do you envision your art journey will take you - say in the next 5 years?

I want to bridge fashion and technology to make the industry a better place for the world and bring positive influences to people around me. 5 years for technology is very short, I hope in this time I can establish my creative identity firmly in Web3 and have more freedom to create without limitations.

Q7: any closing statements?

Always be grateful for what you have and continue to grow and create!

THANK YOU RAY FOR THE LOVELY INTERVIEW. CHEERS.
